NAWRAS ALTAKY : ARISE!

With his musical originality and ability to transcend genres, the Syrian/Dutch singer, composer and ud player Nawras Altaky has acquired a solid place in the Dutch music scene. Nawras Altaky’s music stands out thanks to the way he organically and subtly combines jazz, Arabic maqam, classical counterpoint and elements of modern music in his compositions and improvisations. With roots in Syria and a life that has blossomed in his adopted homeland, he embodies a unique fusion of cultures, absorbing the rich musical heritage of his birthplace while embracing the artistic landscape of the Netherlands.

Arise! was created as part of the Bimhuis’ Reflex series and is in the artist’s own words “A tribute to the unwavering spirit of survivors around the world, a reminder that within each of us lies the potential for greatness, waiting for a chance to blossom.” Nawras and his international band of talented musicians invite you on a journey of music, stories, transformation and hope in an evening highlighting human spirit’s ability to overcome adversity and find strength in the face of unimaginable challenges.
